About Us

The owners and managers of the farm are Hannes & Nicky du Plessis. Hannes & Nicky have a background in the hospitality industry doing guiding and lodge management. They have also run a landscaping business and Nicky has groomed horses in Italy, Scotland and New Zealand for competitive riders backing and schooling horses.

Equitrailing at Boschrivier was started by Vicky Rowlands in 1993. One of the current owners, Nicky, was part of Vicky's team guiding trails and training horses.

Hannes and Nicky have since bought the farm and renamed it Boschrivier after the Boschfontein river running through the property. In the process they took over the horse trails, and they've worked hard to consistently continue to offer the same quality horses.

Frank & Johnny are exceptionally dedicated grooms. Johnny also does horse trails and is so in demand that he also does work for Vicky Rowlands.

Hannes & Nicky also raise pasture-fed pigs, bees, chickens and a Dexter stud on their farm.

"The highlight of our honeymoon! We spent two weeks in the Western Cape for our honeymoon. Our host gave us a leaflet for this place and we thought we'd give it a go. We cannot recommend the experience more highly. This was, by far, our favourite experience of our whole two weeks - we loved it. Nicky was our guide who was not only extremely friendly but she was professional, knowledgable and enjoyable to spend time with. The farm is located in a stunning part of the area which makes the horse trail quite breathtaking in parts. The horses were so well behaved with excellent natures - thank you Nicky."

"Delightful stay. It was such a pleasure and delight to stay in this beautiful cottage on the farm. Everything is neat and clean and the cottage is well equipped. We were surprised by the Knysna Loeries that visited the fig tree next to the cottage and to see them feast on the figs. The horses are friendly and one specific horse came to me to be cuddled."

"Highly recommended and very friendly professional people. This place was absolutely beautiful. Can't fault a thing. Nicky was so amazing and so accommodating. We turned up for an hour and a half trek and it was like nothing we've ever done before. The horses were so calm and so well behaved and the way that they live in herds is amazing. Plus getting to see a few beautiful dogs. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area."
